Reflecting on his own experience and the volumes of advice he has collected over 30 years (some headed, some ignored), André Ristic will discuss how to have a decent financial life as a professional composer of contemporary music. The workshop will include a break down of the general principles that guide financial planning for the modern composer, including: identifying income sources, navigating public and private funding structures, selecting community and mentorship, and balancing income generation with artistic activity. This will be followed by an interactive presentation and analysis of a provisional project budget. The workshop will close with a Q&A for participant questions.
